Families in Bridgeville and nearby communities now have a new place to turn when their children need help with mental health concerns. UPMC Children’s also operates a pediatric behavioral health walk-in clinic at the main hospital in Lawrenceville. Both locations are part of UPMC’s commitment to making mental health care more accessible for children and teens across the region. The clinics welcome children and adolescents up to age 18 who are facing non-urgent mental health challenges.

"We know that when a child is struggling, timely access to care can make all the difference,” said Diane Hupp, president, UPMC Children’s Hospital. “This clinic ensures that families have a safe, welcoming place to turn for immediate support — no appointment needed. Our goal is to remove barriers, reduce stigma, and make it easier for young people to get the help they need, when they need it most."

What Services Are Offered?

Accompanied by a parent or guardian, children and teens can walk in and receive same-day care from therapists and psychologists who provide:

  • Targeted behavioral health assessments
  • One-time therapeutic interventions
  • Coordination with the child’s existing care team
  • Referrals to other services or community resources for ongoing support

It’s important to note that the clinic does not provide medication management or medical care.

Reasons to Seek Care

The behavioral health walk-in clinic provides support for the following mental health concerns:

  • Anxiety or stress
  • Depression
  • Difficulty focusing or sleeping
  • Isolation or loss of interest in activities
  • Loss of appetite
  • Grief
  • Panic attacks
  • Relationship issues
  • School Avoidance

The clinic is designed to offer quick, expert help.

"Our goal is to make sure families don’t have to wait weeks or months for support,” said Dr. Abigail Schlesinger, MD, clinical chief of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Integrated Care at UPMC Western and UPMC Children’s. “We want every child to feel heard and cared for.”
