Summer Camp
Summer is a great time to learn some new music skills and make some new friends too! Most camps are a half day, but combine two camps on the same week to create a full day camp experience with an hour between for lunch and outdoor time! Each camp's schedule will vary, but expect a full day filled with games, fun, music, friends, and memories!Summer Music Camp

Songwriting Workshop teaches students a step by step method for songwriting that incorporates the concept of prosody. Prosody is the idea that the music we write should follow the natural rhythm and ideas of the lyrics. Students who participated in last year’s composition camp are encouraged to join us again. This year’s workshop will be completely new and fresh from the concepts covered last year. Combine this camp with the 1950s Musical Revue! to have a longer day camp with an hour between for lunch and outside time!

Spaced Out Music Camp takes students on a musical journey through outer space, studying music of Gustav Holst, and singing/playing folk songs from all over the world. The lessons teach campers about the Voyager Satellites launched in 1970, each containing a gold disk with songs and pictures form Earth to teach beings on other planets what life is like on Earth. The closing performance includes a parody of a 1938 radio broadcast that made listeners believe the world was being invaded by space aliens. The performance will include acting and song performances that include singing, body percussion, recorders, pitched percussion, rhythm sticks, Boomwhackers, sound effects, and more! Campers will also create arts and crafts including a Gustov Holst inspired planet art in the style of Eric Carle and masks and costumes to wear for the closing performance. Beethoven Piano Camp is for piano students with at least one year of piano experience. Students with 3+ years of playing experience are invited to join us for an extended day filled with even more piano playing. All young musicians are welcome to join us, and they do not have to study piano at Lewis Music Studio to attend! This camp will use fun, games, activities, and time at the keyboard to reinforce vocabulary, rhythm, and reading skills. We will focus on learning the music and history of Beethoven. Beethoven’s music is foundational to piano playing, and learning his history is impactful for young piano students. In addition, campers will learn a piece of music to perform for family members at the end of the week with a small group of other students. This ensemble playing experience is vital for pianists who often have limited opportunities to play with others. Parents can join us at the end of the week for a performance of what we learned!
